You are in the middle of writing and realize that you need to erase only to see you accidentally grabbed the sharpie which means no erasing now, or does it?

What if you could have a sharpie that you were able to erase? Well, look no further, Sharpie has created such a writing utensil that can be both permanent and erased.

Normal sharpies are not erasable however Sharpie has now created a liquid pencil. It works much like a pen in the sense that you click down the liquid and begin to write. This new sharpie pen is actually liquid graphite and it doesn’t become permanent for 3 days.

Instead of creating an erasable pen, they developed liquid graphite and made a more permanent pencil. However, the writing does not become permanent until day three.

If you are writing for a big project and jotting down ideas all over the place, you have up to three days to go back and change those ideas before they become permanent.

So normal sharpies can not be erased however a sharpie pencil can be erased… at least for the first 3 days.

Can You Use A Sharpie Marker On A Whiteboard?

When writing on a whiteboard the possibilities are endless. You can write an inspirational quote, draw a picture turning the whiteboard into art, write down memos and appointments you and others need to remember, use it as a teacher to explain the formula for solving x, etc.

However before you decide to use a whiteboard it is important to know if you use a sharpie and not ruin the board.

You can use a sharpie on a whiteboard, however, it does not erase like dry erase markers. To remove sharpie from a dry erase board you would need alcohol/acetone or another strong cleaner.

Dry erase markers are designed specifically for whiteboards and are the recommended writing utensil to use on it. But if you do end up reaching for the sharpie by mistake, your whiteboard is not ruined.

In order to clean and restore your whiteboard, all you need is a dry erase marker and then use it to retrace what was written. Once retraced thoroughly, you can then erase the sharpie writing just like you would if it was written only with the dry erase marker.

You can also clean off sharpie by using nail polish remover, a magic eraser, or products like Goof Off and Goo Gone.

How Can You Remove Sharpie From Different Surfaces?

Permanent markers are great for crafty writing, label making, keeping your house organized, hiding scuff marks on shoes, and more. The list of great uses for permanent markers can go on and on.

However, there is also a downside to a permanent marker, it is permanent (you never would have guessed that, right?).

If you write somewhere and change your mind, it can be a pain to remove the permanent ink.

Here is a list of potential surfaces permanent ink could end up on and the different ways to remove that ink.

How To Remove Sharpie From Plastic

One of the common reasons you could write on plastic could be organizing the fridge or simply writing your name on your container so you make sure it comes home with you. Whatever reason is needed for erasing the ink off plastic, the process to remove the ink is rather simple.

Take a dry erase marker and cover the permanent ink completely. Once covered, wipe away with a paper towel or cloth and viola’ the ink is gone. You can repeat the process if necessary.

How To Remove Sharpie From Clothes

You’re writing and get bumped resulting in getting the permanent marker on your favorite shirt, pants, etc. What should you do?

Here are a few different clothing options and the method used to remove the ink.

How To Remove Sharpie From Cotton Clothes

Hairspray can be used for cotton clothing. Make sure that the hairspray you are using has alcohol, not all hairsprays do.

Spray on the stain until the area is fully saturated. Let the hairspray sit for about 15 minutes. Wash the clothing by itself in the washing machine.

This way if the stain bleeds you won’t need to repeat the process on other clothing. Use warm water when washing.

How To Remove Sharpie From Wool Clothes

You pretty much repeat the process for cotton, except instead of placing the clothing in the washing machine, you hand wash the clothing with cold water.

How To Remove Sharpie From Leather Clothes/Shoes

It is possible to remove permanent ink from leather without ruining the leather. Dab vinegar onto the stain with a clean cloth. Allow the vinegar to sit for a few minutes and then use the same clean cloth to wipe the stain away using a circular motion.

How To Remove Sharpie From Skin

You’ve reached for a pen to write something important on your hand only to realize that it was one of those sharpie pens and now you’re stuck with this message for longer than intended. No worries, all you need is some hand sanitizer.

Put the hand sanitizer on your hands and rub away. It’s best to use a cloth to remove the stain as the ink will transfer to the cloth instead of just smearing it around on your hand.

How To Remove Sharpie From Carpet

Something as innocent as coloring on the floor can turn into a mess if the marker happens to bleed through. In order to remove the permanent ink, you can use rubbing alcohol.

Make sure to blot the area instead of scrubbing. By blotting you save your carpet by not spreading around the stain.

Once you have blotted the area with rubbing alcohol, use a clean, damp cloth to remove the remaining stain and rubbing alcohol.

How To Remove Sharpie From Wood

Much like coloring on the floor, markers can easily bleed through right onto your dining room table. All you need to remove the stain is some toothpaste, the non-gel kind.

Use the toothpaste and rub it into the wood grain. You can either use a cloth or even an old toothbrush. Make sure to rub with the grain and watch as the stain slowly disappears.

How To Remove Sharpie From Glass

If you’ve written a message to remember on the mirror and grabbed the permanent marker instead of dry erase, don’t panic. Now you can use the dry erase marker to retrace and wipe away the message.

You can also use acetone, nail polish remover, or also rubbing alcohol to remove the stains from the glass as well.

Should You Store Sharpies Upside Down?

Markers can be a bit tricky, you reach for one and expect to see bright vibrant colors from it only to see that it’s kind of fading. You just bought these markers, how can they be going dry and dying out so fast?

It just might be the way the markers are stored that are causing them to write like they are drying out.

It is best to store your sharpies upside down. This way the liquid is constantly at the tip of the marker.

If you are storing markers right side up, this lets the ink sink toward the bottom of the marker making your markers appear to be dried out. This tip or storing markers upside down also works well for pens too.

The more ink you have flowing forward to the tip of the marker, the better your maker will write.

While a typical sharpie may not be erasable, there are plenty of methods to “erase” a sharpie from most surfaces.
