How Do You Clean Up Slime?
During your daily house cleanup you might notice a glittery, colored spot on the carpet. It’s slime! The gooey toy has found its way into the soft fibers of the carpet. How are you going to clean it?
Cleaning up slime is easy with some common household products. Vinegar is great at breaking down the slime so it can be removed from certain fabrics.
Let’s start with the carpet. If slime is stuck on your floor, try to remove as much of it as possible. For this you can use a knife or spoon to scrape it out and onto a paper towel.
Then mix a solution of ⅔ white vinegar and ⅓ water in a spray bottle and spray the cleaner on the remaining slime. Let it soak in. Once it’s sat for a while take a scrub brush and scrub the cleaner in to soften and break down the slime.
Using a cloth blot the excess liquid and repeat as much as you need to. Then you can vacuum up the rest.
Rubbing alcohol works great on colored stains.
Also, if you do not like the vinegar smell just sprinkle some baking soda on the carpet and vacuum it up once it is dry.
To remove slime from a couch, use the same steps as for the carpet. To get rid of the vinegar smell use plain water and a clean cloth to scrub it. You can use a towel over the spot to help it dry faster.
If slime is on your walls it may be easy to scrape off but the dyes may leave a mark on them. Baking soda and water with a small amount of vinegar can take it right off. Just dab the paste directly on the stains and let it dry.
Remember to protect your floors and wipe any drips that might occur right away. When the paste is dry, brush it off with a paper towel. If the slime is dry, You can also use a mild detergent and water in a bowl and wash it off.

Can Slime Be Washed?
As you’re doing laundry you grab one of your kids shirts, are about to toss it into the washer and then you see it. A big glob of blue gooeyness. Somehow they have managed to get slime on their favorite shirt.
You consider just tossing it but what if you can save the shirt? There is a way!
Try to remove as much slime as possible from the clothes before you wash it. Let the material soak for a bit first and then you can wash it as usual.
To clean the slime from clothing, try to get off as much of the slime as you can. Use ice to freeze it off, or soak it in white distilled vinegar for 5 minutes. Afterwards, rinse off any leftover slime particles with warm water while the vinegar is still wet.
It is recommended to pretreat the spot with liquid detergent for about 10 minutes and then soak for about 30 minutes. Now you may wash as you normally would and let it air dry. If none of this works, acetone may be used by gently dabbing the stain and washing as usual.
When Should You Throw Out Slime?
Slime can get pretty gross the longer it is used. Not washing your hand before handling it or placing it on dirty surfaces can also make it get really dirty fast.
So how do we know when we should toss it?
When your slime gets too dirty or has too many contaminants you should throw it away. Also if it is no longer slimy but sticky or hard then you know it’s time to get rid of it as well.
To get rid of your old slime you can slimpy place it in a bag and throw it into the trash can.
If stored correctly slime will last for weeks to months. Along with an airtight storage container, you can also use Ziploc baggies to keep your slime..well, slimy!
If you don’t have either of these things then wrapping the top of the container you placed the slime into with plastic wrap will work too. You can place it in the fridge or keep it at room temperature.
The slime will tend to get a little hard after a week or so but don’t toss it right away! There are ways you can soften the slime, bringing it back to being as sticky as ever. Some things that should do the trick are using antibacterial gel, warm/hot water, slime activator (for the cases when you have too much water), lotion, and microwaving.
Throw slime away if it has developed mold or is too dirty to be played with anymore.
It is better to buy new slime if any mold is present rather than risking letting your kids play with it.
Some people become creative with their old slime (if it isn’t dirty or moldy) and make clay figurines or art with it. If you like to recycle you should try this.
Slime is a fun toy to play with but when it has been played with a lot it can become dirty and should be thrown away. Slime is relatively cheap to buy so it isn’t a big deal if it has to be tossed.
Cleaning slime out of any material is simple too. However, it is a good idea to have your kids play with the squishy stuff on a newspaper or on a table to be safe.
