Nerf guns are one of the most popular toys among kids. This will be the third year in a row that my older children have requested to have Nerf gun wars at their birthday party.
If your kids are anything like mine the bullets are forever going missing because they shoot them at anything and everything meaning they get stuck somewhere or fall behind something, they do not pick them up when they are done, the dogs chew on them, etc.
When it comes to replacing the Nerf bullets or darts do you have to buy certain bullets for each Nerf gun, or are they interchangeable?
If the bullets are Nerf brand and the Nerf gun takes standard bullets, then they are all interchangeable. If they are an off-brand bullet or gun then there might be some troubles with them working in Nerf guns.
Typically, when buying a Nerf gun, it will come with its own set of darts to be used with that particular gun. Each Nerf gun’s bullets can vary in look, but they are all the same in that they have a heavier rubber tip so that they will fly, and they are all about the same size making them interchangeable with other Nerf guns.
The majority of the Nerf blasters are compatible with the darts that are made by other manufacturers. The exception to this would be the magazine system blaster, these guns typically only take streamline darts, which have smaller diameter tips.
However, in 2013 Elite darts became the new standard for replacement bullets as they are compatible with regular and magazine system blasters.
If you are running out of Nerf bullets and need to get some more you can find a giant pack of them by clicking here.
How Many Guns Are In The Nerf Blaster Line?
With how popular Nerf guns are, there seems to be new Nerf guns coming out on a regular basis. Every time a new one comes out my kids think they HAVE to have it, or the world will come to an end.
We currently have way more Nerf guns in our house than we know what to do with.
With this being said, how many different Nerf guns are there?
The Nerf blaster line currently has 25 different styles in its line plus additional lines that center around other popular franchises.
These different lines are:
1. N-Strike Elite
2. Dart Tag
3. Zombie Strike
4. Alien Menace
8. N-Strike Mega
9. Rival Phantom Corps
11. Rival Camo Series
12. Rival Edge
13. Rival Curve Shot
14. Super Soaker
15. N-Strike Elite Accustrike
18. Modulus Ghost Ops
19. Laser Ops Pro
21. Elie 2.0
22. Micro Shots
24. Alpha Strike

There are also Nerf gun lines that center around Marvel Comics, G.I. Joe, Roblox, Star Wars, Fortnite, Transformers, Halo Infinite and Overwatch.
Within these lines, Nerf has released multiple different styles of guns bringing the total of different types of Nerf guns to well over 1,000!
While I do not think my pocketbook, or house, can handle all of these different Nerf guns, it is nice to know that Nerf is working diligently on keeping their customers happy with the release of new guns on a consistent basis.
Are There Different Accessories You Can Buy For Nerf Guns?
Nerf guns are a lot of fun to play with, but kids are always looking for ways to up their playing level and playing with Nerf guns is no exception. Most toys come with, or have additional, accessories that can be purchased and luckily Nerf guns have them as well.
There are tons of accessories for Nerf guns on the market including eye protection, tactical vests, targets, extra Nerf bullets, and much more.
While Nerf guns on their own are a fun toy to play with, many kids want more than just a gun to shoot.
Among some of the less popular, but more important accessories for Nerf guns are protective eyewear. It is important for kids, and adults, to protect their eyes when playing with Nerf guns.
Accidents happen, shots miss their target and people can get hurt. Wearing protective eyewear can help keep you from sustaining an eye injury that could potentially lead to blindness.
Similar to safety eyewear are face masks as these are also a great option for protection. They protect your eyes and the majority of your face as well.
While most Nerf guns do not shoot hard enough to hurt, there are motor powered Nerf guns on the market that could do some damage if a person were to be hit in the face and they were not wearing protection.
One of the popular accessories on the market are tactical vests. These vests resemble police or military vests and can hold additional bullets so that you can quickly and easily refill your gun during a Nerf war.
They are typically lightweight and easy to move in, so they do not cause many distractions while playing. Some of the vests even come with a flap on the inside to hold additional Nerf guns.
Targets are also popular among kids.
These targets have a wide range of shapes and objectives. The standard though is your typical shooting target. These are great for kids who want to play with their guns, but do not have anyone to play with at that time and kids who just want to work on their aim.
They can provide hours of fun and entertainment. You can even use them to set up challenges for yourself and others.
One of my kids’ favorite accessories to use are the ones to make obstacle courses. They have barrels and other things that you can hide behind, things to climb on, ropes to crawl under and you can even incorporate some of the targets for additional fun!
My kids have a blast setting up different courses and challenges for each other and love seeing who can get it done the fastest and most accurately.
These are the things we use for their birthday parties as well. It is always a hit with the kids, and it allows for hours of play. The bonus? Everyone goes home exhausted, and they sleep well that night!
