The world of Pokémon is an exciting and very vast one. You have Pokémon trainers, the Pokémon they train, and the Pokémon they fight.

Pokémon is a worldwide phenomenon and played by millions. But does anyone really know if the Pokémon they are trying to train are monsters or animals?

The word Pokémon is actually a shortened version of the two words, pocket monster. So strictly according to the name Pokemon are actually monsters!

Are these creatures really monsters though? While the word monster is in their name, many of these creatures are actually mutated animals.

Does their mutation from animal to Pokémon turn them into a monster?

Technically, according to their name, yes Pokémon are monsters. Even though they may be considered monsters that doesn’t mean they are loved any less.

Can You Collect Real Pokémon?

Since Pokémon may be considered monsters, do they exist in the real world? Have you ever looked at your Pokémon card and thought to yourself, “It’d be really cool if these were real animals?”

Guess what, while the Pokémon themselves may not be real many of the creatures are based on real animals.

You actually can own an unmutated version of Pokémon! Some of the animals that are similar to Pokemon are: springhares, Kissing Gourami, Hermit Crab, and more.

Below are a few of the animals that could be considered real-life Pokémon pets.

Springhare – Pikachu

While this animal may not be as cute as Pikachu, it is still the real animal counterpart. Pikachu has similar features to the African rodent such as its black-tipped ears, long tail, and flat feet.

Although it would be fun to own your very own Pikachu it may be extremely difficult to find as it is very rare as an American pet.

Kissing Gourami – Luvdisc

These freshwater fish are actually quite popular in aquariums. Luvdisc got its name based on the fact that when the Kissing Gourami “kiss” they create the shape of a heart together.

However, their large lips are actually used for fighting instead of kissing.

Hermit Crab – Dwebble

The Dwebble is basically a Hermit Crab but instead of a shell it has a rock. Hermit Crabs are quite a popular choice for pets.

The Hermit Crab requires a larger aquarium, lots of humidity, tons of sand, things to climb on, and access to salt and freshwater. While they may be fun and popular, they are kind of high maintenance.

Axolotl – Wooper

Wooper is based on the Mexican Salamander (Axolotl). These pets are extremely easy to care for as all they need are food and access to cool water.

Eastern Newt – Charmander

Charmander may look like a mix of animals like the dinosaur or lizard, however, Charmander is based on the Eastern Newt. The Newt is small and orange just like Charmander.

You can keep the Eastern Newt in an aquarium.

Fancy Goldfish – Goldeen

All Goldeen is is just a Fancy Goldfish but with a horn. Goldeen is the unicorn of Fancy Goldfish. While goldfish aren’t particularly known for their longevity, the Fancy Goldfish can last for 20 years or more with proper care.

Typically they need tons of space, so a larger aquarium is the way to go for owning Goldeen.

Frilled Dragon – Heliolisk

Also used for inspiration in other movies, such as Jurassic Park, the Frilled Dragon is the animal that Heliolisk was created after. They need a tall cage and at decent length one too.

The average adult can reach up to three feet from head to tail so make sure they have plenty of room to move around.

What Is The Cutest Pokémon?

Everyone has their own favorite Pokémon. Some pick their favorite based on performance, how easily they are able to be trained, power, abilities, how cool their name sounds, and even their cuteness.

So which creature is the cutest Pokémon?

There are actually quite a few options to choose from when it comes to giving out the title of cutest Pokémon.

Based on polls and popularity the cutest Pokemon are:

  • Pikachu
  • Mew
  • Eevee
  • Cubchoo
  • Litleo
  • Togedemaru
  • Sobble
  • Phanpy
  • Jigglypuff

Ultimately which one of these Pokemon is the absolute cutest is totally up to you. Personally I feel that Eevee is the cutest of them all.

Below I will go into a little more detail about each of those cute Pokemon.

Pikachu

The most iconic of all the Pokémon, of course, Pikachu lands as one of the cutest in the Pokémon world.

Whether Pikachu’s cuteness comes from traveling around with Ash or because it’s one of the most merchandised characters in Pokémon, either way, Pikachu has won the hearts of many Pokémon catchers.

Mew

This mythic creature is a favorite for many Pokémon players. Mew has a few things working against her when it comes to being one of the cutest.

According to Gen 1, Mew contains DNA from every single Pokémon. With all that DNA, Mew turned out to be cute.

Mew is also a Psychic-type, those usually have a creepy element about them, but again Mew beat the odds and is one of the cute and not creepy ones.

Eevee

Is this a cat, a dog, or even a fox? Who knows, but this Pokémon takes all the adorable parts of those animals and earns a spot on the cutest Pokémon list.

Cubchoo

The cute and snotty Cubchoo just always looks like it’s asking for a hug, and you feel compelled to give it to him. Unfortunately once Cubchoo evolves it turns into one of the ugliest characters in the Pokémon world.

Litleo

Many fire-type characters are found powerful and not as cute, but Litleo changes the game on that stereotype. His cute bear, lion, and dog-like features and his mohawk make him irresistible.

Togedemaru

This is basically a shorter and rounder version of Pikachu. Togedemaru is a high-energy ball of excitement with such tiny little feet and hands. Even when angered it’s still cute but just with fur spikes.

Sobble

This adorable creature is one that you just want to hug and tell it everything will be alright. Bursting in tears whenever it is scared and turning invisible when wet are just some of these adorable creatures’ features.

Everything inside you just wants to take Sobble so you can protect and hug it.

Phanpy

Created after an elephant, Phanpy is a sure hit and one of the cutest Pokemon. Its pastel color and floppy ears are the perfect combinations that make Phanpy a cute Pokémon.

Jigglypuff

Jigglypuff has been the unofficial cutest Pokémon for years until some of the next Gens were released. This singing Pokémon has had the hearts of many catchers for years and appears on several different types of merchandise.

There are many others that could be added to the cutest Pokémon list, but these are just some of the cutest. You get to decide which one is your favorite.

Even though Pokémon may be monsters, they still win the hearts of many catchers every day.
