The concept of bouncing off a fabric surface has been around for some time. In the early years of the 20th century, some acrobats used a “bouncing bed” on the stage to amuse audiences.

The bouncing bed was a form of small trampoline covered by bedclothes, on which acrobats performed mostly comedy routines.

A trampoline is a device consisting of a piece of taut, strong fabric stretched between a steel frame using many coiled springs. Not all trampolines have springs, as the Springfree Trampoline uses glass-reinforced plastic rods.

People bounce on trampolines for recreational and competitive purposes. The fabric that users bounce on (commonly known as the “bounce mat” or “trampoline bed”) is not elastic itself; the elasticity is provided by the springs that connect it to the frame, which store potential energy.

A net is sometimes used to surround the trampoline for safety purposes. The trampoline springs are used to attach the trampoline mat to the sides of the trampoline frame.

Trampolines can typically last from between 3 to 8 years. This does not mean that your trampoline will last longer or shorter than this time. This again depends on how you take care of your trampoline.

Weather can be an issue when it comes to your trampoline’s lifespan. Even though the trampoline is made to be outside, there are still weather conditions that can impact the integrity of the equipment.

In the fall, for example, wet leaves that pile up on the trampoline can get heavy and weaken the mat if left there for too long. The same is true for snow and ice in the winter.

Family members could work together to keep the trampoline pad clear of debris and snow or you can also winterize your trampoline every year. This can be done by removing the mat and springs as well as the safety net if you have one.

The frame can stay in the yard.

If you don’t want to take apart your trampoline, you can just lean the whole trampoline on its side so that nothing weighs down on the mat.

A trampoline cover can also protect the trampoline from all of the weight from leaves and snow, as well as direct sunlight.

After a few years of owning your trampoline you may have the need to replace some parts of your trampoline.

Can You Replace The Trampoline Mat, Net, And Springs To Make Your Trampoline Like New?

You may find after you have winterized your trampoline over a few years that it is hard to reattach the springs or the mat. The springs may also become stretched out over the year. The net that surrounds the trampoline may eventually become worn.

The good news is, the net, mat and springs are all replaceable. However often it costs more to replace the parts than it does to simply buy a new trampoline.

The part of the trampoline that will get the most wear and tear is the mat. The mat pad is the section of the trampoline that takes on all of the kinetic energy that goes into every bounce. It can be made with nylon, fabric, or a combination of materials to create a durable surface.

Warranty for mats vary between manufacturers, but range from 90 days to 5 years. You can make sure that your trampoline mat lasts longer by taking some precautions.

You should never wear shoes on the mat of the trampoline. The first thing to do when approaching a trampoline to jump is to take off your shoes.

Then make sure that you have removed all sharp objects from your pockets. This will ensure that the mat does not get snagged or ripped.

Also, consider jumping with clothing that will not snag on the pad, for example, jeans, exposed zippers or snaps.

Springs can be replaced. If you see they are broken, bent or rusted it is a good idea to replace them. You can replace the old and worn trampoline springs for fresh new ones.

Maybe you are looking to maximize the trampoline’s potential and want to replace the original springs in your trampoline with different springs. You could purchase longer springs for your trampoline. Longer springs equal more bounce.

Always use springs with a helical (cone) shape at the end. These have more power than springs with the same size diameter coils all the way through.

When evidence of wear and tear are manifested on a trampoline, it is important to start replacing the parts. Replacement of these worn parts will go a long way to ensuring safety.

The springs on your trampoline are a part that can wear out sooner, rather than later.

If you

choose to store your trampoline during the winter, the springs are the easiest to store. They can go into a tote during the cold season, then you can oil them up and reattach them when you are ready to bounce again.

The springs can also be protected by a safety pad or spring cover. You can even cover them with pool noodles that are cut to size over each spring.

Of the three components of the trampoline, the springs are the easiest and most affordable to replace. Some companies will even give a manufacturer’s warranty on the springs for the same length of time as the frame or pad. Others do not offer as much because springs see a lot of wear and tear and will stretch out over time

No matter which brand of trampoline you have, the trampoline’s net was designed to fit your specific model. Finding the right net for your trampoline can be hard but with a little bit of perseverance it can be done.

The good news is trampoline nets are usually very affordable. You can search online for your specific trampoline model and then order a new trampoline net online.

You may even be able to go to a local sports equipment or outdoor store and give them the model name and number of your trampoline and purchase a net there. If your local sports equipment store doesn’t have your particular trampoline net in stock, it is likely they can order it for you.
