It’s a warm summer day. The sun shines brightly through the white puffy clouds. Birds chirp and the sound of children playing is heard from your backyard.

They’re enjoying jumping on their trampoline and have been at it for hours. Later in the afternoon the clouds start to darken and droplets of water form on the window. Suddenly a downpour begins.

Your kids scream and run for cover inside the house to get out of the rain that’s pouring down. After a while, it subsides and your kids are ready for round two on their trampoline.

You examine the yard toy to find that it is all wet. Will the water damage the trampoline? Maybe you should have put a cover over it before too much rain soaked the bouncy toy.

Should trampolines even get wet?

The only way trampolines could be damaged from getting wet is rust that may form on its metal parts. Trampolines are made for outdoor use knowing they can get wet from possible rain.

When the manufacturers of a trampoline make their merchandise, they know that it will be sitting out in a yard and subject to all kinds of weather conditions. They make the frame and springs to be rust-resistant since it will most likely get wet from rain.

So a trampoline is meant to be outdoors in different types of weather conditions. The mat of the toy may get a little heavier if it is holding some water in between the stitches but this will not affect the trampoline’s frame in any way.

The springs also won’t be affected if the trampoline gets wet.

But what if your kids just got out of the pool and headed straight towards the trampoline for some bouncing fun?

This could actually be dangerous and they will need to be careful when jumping on a trampoline that is wet as it will become more slippery. If the trampoline doesn’t have a net then the children will be much more likely to slide or fail off when it or they are wet.x

What if you want to intentionally make the trampoline wet for some summer fun? The water won’t damage the toy but you should make sure the spring cover is in good condition and that the trampoline has an enclosure to keep anyone from falling off.

Because a lot of water and use could cause the springs and metal to rust faster than the trampoline manufacturer thought you will want to make sure that they are well protected.

Water trampolines are different from normal trampolines in the fact that the person using it cannot slip and fall onto the hard ground but rather into some water. If your children are jumping on the trampoline wet just make sure you have some safety rules for them and to help maintain your trampoline.

In all, trampolines can get wet and the water won’t damage them.

What Happens When Trampolines Get Wet?

After it rained, the trampoline might have a big puddle of water. Hesitant on if you should clean it first before your kids jump on it again? What happens when a trampoline gets wet?

When a trampoline gets wet the pads become heavier which will result in higher bounce. If the trampoline contains too much water it could break but this is rare and unlikely.

It is okay for your kids to jump on a trampoline while it is wet. Make sure they know some safety rules and it is always a good idea to keep a net around the trampoline in case of an accidental slip and fall. A trampoline can get really slippery when it is wet so most manufacturers will recommend only one jumper on the bouncy toy at a time.

Jumping on a trampoline is more fun with more people but if the trampoline is wet this could cause some collisions. By setting some safety rules in place it will be easier to avoid anyone knocking into each other.

A net will also keep jumpers from slipping off the trampoline onto the hard ground. Even though a trampoline is wet, it will still work in the way it was designed to.

Do I Need To Cover My Trampoline When It Rains?

After the whole rain incident the thought may have crossed your mind if you should invest in a trampoline cover. One to protect it from the rain and other weather conditions. If trampolines are meant to be outdoors, do you really need to cover it when it rains?

A trampoline cover is not necessary however, covering a trampoline when it rains can protect it from getting dirty, or extremely wet. A trampoline cover will also prevent rust from forming on the frame and springs so your trampoline will last longer.

Trampolines are made to be put in your backyard and used outdoors. The manufacturers know they will encounter a lot of rain. For this reason, trampolines are made to be rust-resistant.

If you want your trampoline to continue looking nice, a trampoline cover will provide that extra layer of protection from the metal parts of the trampoline rusting and the padding fading. It can also keep dirt and leaves from building up so you don’t have to clean it off every time before your kids decide to play on it.

If you invest in a trampoline cover, you will protect the yard toy from the impact that dirt, rain, snow, leaves, sun, etc. will have on it. A trampoline that had been out in the yard for years will show that it is old. It will look worn and discolored.

If you want to keep the trampoline looking nice, you can cover it. In the winter months, your kids most likely will not be jumping on the trampoline so during this time you can store the frame pads indoors.

How Do You Dry Out A Wet Trampoline?

Your kids enjoyed bouncing around on the trampoline while it was still wet. Now they are tuckered out and ready to go indoors. Instead of just leaving the trampoline wet in the yard, you decide to dry it out so it doesn’t get rusty.

How do you dry out a wet trampoline?

To dry a trampoline you can remove some of the water left behind with towels and let it sit in the sun. You should also brush any standing water off of it as well.

It’s a good idea to dry out a trampoline when you know there won’t be any more rain coming your way. Otherwise it will just get wet all over again and will be difficult to dry in the humid weather.

If your trampoline is wet, one of the best ways to dry it out is to just let it sit in the sun. This also makes it easier for you since you can just leave it and let the sun do all the drying work for you.

If you decide to clean the trampoline you should grab a couple of old towels to wipe the excess water and then just leave it on in the sunshine to dry out all the way. If you want to dry the trampoline quickly, but don’t want to get wet during the process of drying the trampoline, go underneath it and push up in the middle.

All the extra water will run off of it keeping you dry and drying the trampoline faster.

Final Thoughts

Trampolines can get wet and water won’t damage them. They are meant to be outside and manufacturers make them to be rust-resistant.

If you want to keep your trampoline looking nice and protect it from weather, you can buy a trampoline cover for it. A trampoline is still usable when it’s wet but those jumping on it should be careful.

If you want to keep the trampoline dry, just soak up the water with towels and let it dry in the sun. In the winter you can also store the frame pads indoors.

Trampolines are an enjoyable outside toy that kids love to play on. They are fine to be left in the rain and you don’t need to worry about them getting wet.
